Trustee Daniel Goldstein was overwhelmingly defeated in the mayoral race against Mayor Alex Edelman and has now resigned from the Lawrence village board effective immediately. He submitted his resignation on Monday.

“To tell you the truth, I am very busy and have a lot going on in my life and I wasn’t going to be running in nine months,” Goldstein said, referring to his trustee term. “The village is in very good hands right now.”

Edelman confirmed that Goldstein submitted a letter of resignation. The mayor now gets to appoint a successor to fill out the remaining time of Goldstein’s trustee term. “I’ll be making an appointment in the next couple of days,” Edelman said to the Herald. “I have a few candidates I want to interview then I’ll make a decision.”
